More London 2012 opportunities for business

This week the ODA hosted a meeting at the Olympic Park with the Welsh Assembly Government and a number of companies from Wales that were keen to find out more about business opportunities generated by London 2012.

This is part of the ODA's programme of UK-wide business engagement that will see us revisiting parts of the country, and also inviting companies to the Olympic Park to speak to us and contractors about what contracts are available.

Over lunch we spoke with the guests to find out about their individual businesses and their London 2012 aspirations, offering advice and assistance regarding how to make the most of the business opportunities available.

We took part in a Q&A session, addressing some of the wider questions the delegation had in relation to getting involved. They were encouraged to learn that with a lot of the large heavy construction packages well into procurement, over the next 18 months there will be an intense period of procurement where many other supply chain opportunities will start to emerge, presenting tender opportunities to a much broader spectrum of businesses.

Representatives were encouraged to register their businesses on CompeteFor, maximising the opportunity to upload detailed company information and an accurate company profile. This will help them to be in the best position to attract and win London 2012 contract opportunities. We also gave advice on how CompeteFor can facilitate wider business-to-business engagement.

Overall it was a successful afternoon of highlighting the opportunities generated by the Games and the lasting benefits it can create.
