Today as I go to work, it's the usual Monday morning rush. I race up the stairs as I know a Lewisham-bound DLR is already there waiting for me. Not really paying attention, I just run on to the train.

DLRs are dinky trains that speed along happily and regular users, I am sure, know about the gentle rocking from side to side when it gets to top speed.

It's when my train gets to top speed I think, 'hmmm, why am I not witnessing the 'nodding dog' that seems to always happen to us all?'. I then look around finally and realise I am on one of the new DLRs! It is bright and airy with a clearer digital display board but it still has the same DLR features that we all know and love.

Its got the 2 carriages right now which will of course go to 3 carriages once all the stations have had their upgrading work completed, but already the public are able to feel the benefits of the Olympic legacy ahead of time. I will miss the old DLRs that have served us so well but bring on the better, brighter, higher capacity trains!
