Loved the Olympic Games...can't wait to get out to Beijing

Reece, Beijing Games junior reporter, 27 Aug 2008

Hi Friends,

Hope you've been watching the Games in Beijing like I have, it's been brilliant. We came 4th in the world which isn't bad at all for a small country is it? Me and my family watched the Cycle Racing, Gymnastics and Boxing mostly - which was a bit scary as they were punching each other very hard at times. Earlier in the day I watched a man on Newsround who went to have a lesson with a famous boxer to show him a few moves and tell him what punches were illegal. He said you have to punch your apponent in the face with the white bit of the boxing glove so I guess that must be OK then!

The Closing Ceremony was as brilliant as the Games, all those fireworks especially the ones that made the Olympic symbol were fantastic. Two men banged huge drums while they were hanging from the stadium roof and below them hundreds of other drummers beat out a repeated pattern while they danced to the music.

I liked the men on the bicycles made of lightbulbs who rode through the dancers, wish I had one of those bikes, no one would miss you on the road in one of those! Thousand of men on bouncy legs came next like giant crickets bouncing around the stadium floor.

Then, from every corner of the stadium came all the people who competed in the games waving flags that represent their country. The China flag gets a big roar from the crowd...well, they did win the most medals. Many of the sports people have got video cameras and are videoing the crowd to remember the day and 2008 games. That's what I'm going to do when I get there for the Paralympic Games so I don't forget a moment of it.

After some speeches, Boris Johnson (my dad says he's the man with the white hair who's the mayor of London) takes the Olympic Flag from the major or Beijing and will bring it back home ready to put up at the 2012 Games.

A big red London bus came out next followed by three cyclists, one is Chris Hoy who is my favourite athlete and has won three gold medals for Cycling at the 2008 Games. The bus changes like a transformer into a screen showing all the pictures of how London will look in 2012 and then David Beckham comes out and the crowd go loopy, think they know who he is!

Lots of people close the Games singing farewell and fireworks go off all round the stadium again and it's the end....phew.....can't wait for 2012!! And the Paralympic Games before of course!!

Londons part in the handover was awful. The projection of Leona's voice was really bad and overall it looked cheap. Must do much better for the opening ceremony.

It was a bit dissapointing, I can't believe this presentation cost £2.5 million pounds, I wonder how much Becks got paid? The best bit was the opening bus and when Beckham appeared, there was a massive cheer, he could of done some kick-ups though. Leona Lewis and Jimmy Page was a bad choice, they are not well known enough. Someone like the Spice Girls, Take That or even Girls Aloud would of been a hit as they are well known internationally. In fairness Leona has some nice songs its a pity she didn't sing one of them. I think the London 2012 organisers should start taking input from the public if the 2012 opening is going to be a success, as they say its everyones games!
