Watching the Beijing Opening Ceremony

Andrea, Comms team, 8 Aug 2008

London 2012 staff gathered with other people working in Canary Wharf to watch the spectacular Beijing Opening Ceremony on the big screen.

Despite some inclement weather, there was an enthusiastic crowd.

There was some interestingly patriotic footwear

But everyone was spellbound by an amazing show.

Well done Beijing!

While I must say the Beijing opening was spectacular and, as said by many, it would be tough on London's, but I think the best way is to make ours a really Green one ! Making use of robots and the like can raise a lot of "ahs" and "ohs", I am sure !

I sat glued to the TV for the whole ceremony! My favourite part was when the Olympic Torch were lit in that enormous torch! Talk about amazing!! It will be hard but I know London can top it!!!

The opening ceremony was particularly spectacular this year. I wonder, though, how much of an amazing statement it would make, as a country that should be leading the planet to supporting the third world, and reducing their debt etc, if instead of spending millions on fireworks, millions was given to chairty. and a x-mins long silence or video or massive statement was made about where money should go.it could be a much better statement and a much more impressive start to the 2012 olympics. I think it would be more impressive than what china did this year.
