Excited about diving facilities coming to London

Jessica Williams, Diver and London 2012 Games hopeful, 17 Jul 2008

Today I visited the Olympic Park site for the start of work on the new London 2012 Aquatics Centre. I’m part of the Crystal Palace Fast Track Team preparing for the London 2012 Games, so I was really excited to see the beginnings of where I hope to be competing in four years time.

With Seb Coe on the Aquatics Centre site:

At the moment there aren’t any pool facilities for Olympic standard diving in London so I’ve had to travel to Sheffield to do my training. I usually have to get up at 4am so I can’t wait until there are facilities nearby! The London 2012 Diving pool will be the best in the world. It will have a dry diving gym, water harnesses and a bubble machine for learning hard dives.

Being a London diver I’m really lucky that I’ll be one of the first divers to practice on the boards when it opens and it’s great to see it start being built.

Hi Jess and Gemma.Nice to see the Aquatic Centre being built, it's desperately needed. If it had been around a few years back Gemma, your training would have been a lot easier to do! just one hell of a shame that it's all that diving's going to get !! Nothing local, still no diving in west of London and we will still have only 7 facilities across London and this one will have no public access either!!

We've actually lost 3 London facilities since we got the Games and 2 others have been turned down.So whats our legacy in London and across the country going to be?? 1 pool with limited accessability and still only 80 pools to cover the near 60 million population.I really was hoping for a better return for the money than this.John Whitby
