On my recent visit to Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy, I was encouraged by the huge progress that has been made on the enhanced sailing facilities. As soon as you arrive on site, you can see the transformation that has taken place since we marked the start of construction in Spring 2008:

The first phase of our enhancement works involves reclaiming 18,000m2 of land in front of the Sailing Academy. Visiting the site gave me the chance to see at first hand how quickly work is progressing with the majority of the 'fill' material now installed and some 50,000 tonnes of Portland stone put in place.
A new aerial photo of the site shows how much work has been carried out so far and give us a great chance to see our plans for 2012 starting to take shape.
Visiting Weymouth and Portland is also a good chance to hear the excitement among local residents about the Games coming to the area in 2012, so it was great this week to send out around 30,000 leaflets to local residents updating them on our plans and the progress we are making.
There is huge enthusiasm for the Games in Weymouth and Portland and it’s important we tap into that by continuing to engage with local people as 2012 gets closer. I look forward to keeping them up to date on the progress we make in the coming months.
