London 2012 blog

Yesterday was a great experience and opportunity to share ideas and experiences with high profile athletes and organisers of the London 2012 Olympic  and Paralympic Games.
I took part in the official launch of a new Education Programme and Paralympic Handover website at the London 2012 offices at Canary Wharf.

It was truly awesome to be part of an introduction to the world press of a brand new endeavour, that I feel confident is going to make a great impact on the lives of many young children and teenagers in the run up to the London 2012 Olympiad.

Before meeting the press, we watched the new DVD launching the London 2012 Paralympic Handover. It was amazing to actually see myself on there with other Ambassadors alongside Ade Adepitan MBE; a modern day role model and outstanding Paralympian shouting out about exciting times ahead for the whole nation.

After this, I met Lord Sebastian Coe and Ade Adepitan (not forgetting the other members of the 2012 team who worked so hard to help make this happen), discussing the current progress and targets of the press launch.

This was an amazing opportunity as it meant I not only got to meet a double gold and silver Olympic medallist and Paralympic Bronze medallist, but I was lucky to share the opportunity to work with them on an extremely influential project.

We kick-started the press launch by showing the participants from the media the DVD that was to be sent to every school in the UK. We then each shared our aims and ideas on how we could make the project a success and answered questions from the floor.

This was the first time that I’d taken part in a 'press event' and although daunting, I found it natural to talk about something that I truly believe in. As an aspiring athlete myself, meeting athletes who have achieved their dreams just makes my goals all the more compelling and I just want to go out and tell everyone about how great sport is.
