Maintaining health and safety standards on Olympic Park

Mark, health and safety advisor, 8 May 2008

My name is Mark. I work as a health and safety advisor for the north of the Olympic Park.

Working on such a high profile project that is as large as this has been very challenging and rewarding for me. The health and safety of all persons involved in this project from the site labourers right through to those who are directing the project is of paramount importance. We have a slogan on site that says 'nothing is so important that it cannot be done safely'.

This site has provided me with a wealth of experience plus a wide range of varying and challenging work activities. As a fairly local person this is a great location for me to be working and it feels fantastic to be part of a project that is going to change the face of east London for good.

Recently we have passed 1,200,000 working man hours and a full calendar year without a Health and Safety Executive (HSE) reportable Lost Time Accident (LTA) which is a great achievement. We have also gained recognition as a 'five star site' by an external audit from the British Safety Council for setting and maintaining standards above the recognised industry best practice.
