It’s not just sporting venues being constructed within the Olympic Park - the Olympic Village will be built just beside it - a key development on the Park. With accommodation and facilities for over 17,000 athletes and officials during the Olympic Games, and over 8,000 during the Paralympic Games, the Olympic Village will enhance their experience of London 2012.

3) Back in November 2007, the two tallest buildings on the Park, formerly used by the University of East London were in the middle of being demolished:



4) A massive 50-tonne machine took a matter of just a few weeks to take down each building in turn, no doubt helped by some amazing weather:



5) Taken from the air, this is a view of the buildings - or more specifically the rubble that remained after the demolition:



6) Now the rubble has been cleared and the old concrete crushed and recycled. Clean soil taken from elsewhere on the Olympic Park is being spread to raise the ground levels on the site:
