The Sporting Champions programme is all about encouraging people, particularly young people, to feel more passionate about sport so I was incredibly excited when London won the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2005 as it will be such an inspiring event for the capital and for the whole country.
With only four years to go until the Games come to the UK, it was great to have the chance to be involved with the Get Set London roadshow when it came to Hammersmith & Fulham on 26th March.
It was a really busy day with lots of visitors trying out all the kit and learning more about how they could get involved in London 2012. There was also a photocall with local authority figures, Olympic Champion Jonathan Edwards and some musicians who were doing a workshop that day. Fortunately the sun held out for most of the morning and guests from the local council got some lessons from the Dhol Drummers who had arrived to give a free workshop:

The west London quarter finals of the London 2012 Talent contest drew a big crowd with a fantastic range of artists showing off their voices and their moves for the judges. Hoover Manoeuvres and Kitty Brucknell made it through to the semi-finals and the voting is
open now It was great to see the response from the public to the roadshow and see people thinking about London 2012 and start to realise how exciting it will be. If it’s starting to inspire people now, then over the next four years the possibilities are endless!

If you're interested in hockey, Richard Mantell, the stalwart England and Great Britain international defender, and hockey’s anti-doping evangelist, has thrown his weight behind a new England Hockey website (www.englandhockey.co.uk/youth) designed to attract and inspire hockey players. He's agreed to become the first guest for a series of live web chats. Anyone can sign on to ask questions of Richard, whose chat will be held at 7pm on Wednesday 28th January 2009.
Young players and would-be players across Britain will be entitled, and encouraged, to ask questions and receive immediate, straight forward answers from the hockey champ in person. The new site was officially opened to the public last week.
Mantell has been an international player for England since 2003 and was a member of the successful Great Britain's men's team that finished fifth at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. The live chat that he will be participating in forms part of a wider strategy to encourage more interest, and thence more talent, into the sport.
