Encouraging businesses in every community to get involved

Adeeba, Chair of the Ethnic Minority Business Task Force, 12 Mar 2008

Yesterday I was in Bristol to speak to an audience of ethnic minority and women owned businesses at the Explore-At-Bristol centre.

The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games represent a great opportunity for UK businesses and I want to make sure that businesses from every community are ready to join the race to win a London 2012 contract.

Speaking at the event:

I was very pleased to be joined by Marlene Cassell from the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) Equality & Inclusion Unit who inspired the audience to get themselves fit to supply the London 2012 Games.

Of course not every business is ready to fulfil an ODA contract and some will need help and guidance to 'get fit'. I am encouraged by the support being offered to businesses through the Business Link network.  This event also gave a practical guide for how these companies can supply to the London 2012 Games but also crucially how to supply other Government contracts such as to the MOD and the NHS. In getting these diverse businesses involved I am confident we will put on the best Games ever and leave a lasting legacy of stronger UK businesses who can supply beyond the London 2012 Games.

Congratulations to the South West Regional Development Agency for putting on such a great event.
