Last Friday I joined the Get Set London road show as it arrived in Uxbridge, Hillingdon. As a Sporting Champion ambassador for Sport England, my goal is to motivate young people to get involved in sport and find ways to improve their fitness and energy.
Hopefully in doing this they can also find something they love doing, so it was great to be at an event like the Get Set London roadshow as it’s the perfect opportunity for the kids to test their skills and find out what sports they could be good at.
Several school groups from around the borough came along on the day to try out the rowing machines, Batak, jump mat and other kit, and I had the chance to talk to the kids and find out what they thought about the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

My life changed when I discovered my love of BMX biking, and it’s important that kids have the chance to discover their own passions and develop new skills. Four years must seem like a lifetime to anyone under the age of 16, but the Get Set London roadshow really helped the 2012 Games come to life for the kids I met in Hillingdon. They all seemed to have a fantastic time trying out the kit and challenging each other to go faster, higher or further. I hope they left the road show feeling more enthusiastic, not just about sport, but about their own potential.
I’m looking forward to visiting more of the roadshows as they carry on around London between now and April.
