Stop seven of the Get Set London roadshow

Martin, Wandsworth Council member, 5 Feb 2008

This weekend Wandsworth council and the Southside Centre were host to the seventh stop of the Get Set London roadshow, and what a day it was!

The presence of the roadshow was a great way to give the residents a taste of the exciting opportunities that are available starting from NOW due to the Olympic and Paralympic Games - new jobs, new skills, new employment, new sporting levels, the list is endless! London 2012 is really going to be the ‘Greatest Show on Earth’.

It was fabulous to see our Mr Mayor Stuart Thom at the event trying his hand on all the interactive equipment. I think we may have found our new gold medallist for canoeing! According to the Diagnostic questionnaire and his skills he has been recommended to try it out. It was fabulous to see people of all ages wanting to find out how they too can be more involved on a sporting and also a business level and generally having fun experimenting on all the equipment - after all that is what the Games are about, FUN!

Wandsworth council is a hundred percent behind London 2012, we are really excited. We hope our residents will be inspired by the Games and challenge themselves. We already have many initiatives going on in the area to support the residents and help them reach their goals such as Paralympic sport taster sessions, active lifestyle programmes for 50+, training classes for sports coaches and free programmes to get kids healthy and fit in only 10 weeks. Please contact Wandsworth Council if you would like to know more about the borough and what opportunities there are for you: www.wandswoth.gov.uk
