ExCeL-lent triathlon action in London

Nick, Commercial team, 9 Aug 2007

London really turned on the style at the World’s largest triathlon last weekend with temperatures reaching 30 degrees under a beautiful blue sky. It was so hot, that the Royal Victoria Dock actually looked really inviting!

This was my second year competing in this great event and after surviving a very physical 1.5km swim leg in the sub-2.30 category, it was a real privilege to be able to cycle the 40km route along the Embankment to Big Ben on closed roads and with such a supportive crowd.

The heat meant that conditions were tough for the 10km run, but with Heather Small’s “Proud” blaring out over the loud speaker, there were plenty of impressive sprint finishes. And with two Brits winning the overall races, namely Tim Don and Michelle Dillon, this is a sport with great medal prospects in Beijing next year and in 2012.
The atmosphere at ExCeL was fantastic – days like these make it easy to understand why triathlon is one of the fastest growing sports in the country. It’s also really exciting to think that the huge hall with thousands of bikes lined up will be the venue for the Weightlifting, Paralympic Powerlifting, Judo, Wrestling, Boccia, Taekwondo, Table Tennis, Boxing and Wheelchair Basketball in 2012.

Bring it on!

    Hello everyone,
This is a first time for me to log into this blog, but getting the Olympics is the best thing that could ever happen to London in my life time.
Seb Coe should be the next King of England as far as I am concerned. The amount of revenue that the games will bring in to the region and benefit London and the whole country will be just unimaginable.
OK so far so good. I've just got three things that I need to clarify.
Firstly, I live in Wansted in East London - what will be the impact of the games for residents who live in this part of the World ?
Secondly, my Daugther will be 11 years old by 2012, is it possible that she could get involved as a volunteer or carry out other duties ?
Thirdly, the Logo - well in my opinion it's bright, bold, imaginative, creative and links in completely with youth culture. It is the Children that these games are mean't for and nobody else - the whole Oylmpic spirit is based on inspiring the young and giving them a spring board for the future - I love it - embrace the Olympic spirit - everything that it stands for - and you will embrace life. Thankyou, Alan.
