There I was doing my day job, wooing the bus and coach industry to work with us for 2012, and the bus company goes and launches a brand new daily commuter coach from my home town Milton Keynes, direct to my desk (well almost) at Canary Wharf. So yesterday (Monday 30 July) I swapped rail travel for the security of a guaranteed leather seat, full climate control and wi-fi, but without buying a luxury car (er not that I could afford one!)
Apart from making my commute much less stressful, it’s saving me a packet because coach travel is such value for money - why does this matter? Well, the bus company is showing us that coaches can be lined up to provide a “DCS” service, that’s “Direct Coach Services” to Games venues in 2012. Whole categories of would-be spectators who might not fancy, or can’t, travel to venues by other methods will like the appeal of a guaranteed seat, ease of travel, and even, where required, full wheelchair accessibility by the front door.
Apparently I snoozed en route.
