Georgie, Triathlete

An inspiring site

Georgie, Triathlete, 27 Feb 2007

Last weekend I took part in the National Olympic Academy run by the British Olympic Foundation.

It’s an annual event bringing together people from across the world of sport to share information and ideas about the Olympic Games and issues around it.

A real mix of people go – university students and lecturers, athletes, team managers, coaches, National Governing Body member, sports administrators…

I was there to give a presentation on Holding Camps, which bring together athletes from different sports in one training site before a Games. But I was also there as a potential Olympic competitor – I’m a Triathlete and would love to compete at the Games!
It was the first time I’ve been to an NOA and it was great – really interesting. I met interesting, friendly people from all over the world but also found out a lot I didn’t know about London 2012.

We had presentations from the Chief Executive and Director of Sport and got to go on a tour of the Olympic Park. I loved it! Seeing how it will all work and be arranged over in East London was very insightful and it has really reignited my Olympic excitement.

The site has a lot more sporting venues on it than I thought, as well as the Athletes' Village. And having it all right next to the transport links will be amazing!
