Talking to the IOC

Seb, the Chair, 30 Nov 2006

The IOC Executive Board are in Kuwait. Obviously we are very pleased with Denis Oswald’s (Chair of our Co-ordination Commission) report on our progress to the Executive Board. This really helps rebalance some of the more fanciful and lurid headlines of late.

I spoke to him after his report although our conversation was partially drowned out by Arabic music in the background as they were about to sit down for dinner three hours ahead.

I finished off the day by watching the Frost/Nixon play in the West End – now that was an interrogation!

It was a pleasure to read the official report of Chairman of the IOC Coordination Commission, Denis Oswald. I was particularly happy to read, inter alia, his reasons for the dismissal of press speculation on the cost of the 2012 Olympics and his endorsement of the London 2012 organisation. The progress in planning and implementation of the Games infrastructure made in the first 12 months seems to me to be spectacular. If we can maintain this pace and keep up the first class communication represented by this website, then we can look forward to an outstanding Games. Incidentally, I have worked overseas for 30 years and I know that if we do pull off a truly great spectacle then our international business prospects will blossom enormously. Perhaps only one of the great benefits from this enterprise.
