Additional information

Ambitions
"People have short memories and I haven't performed up to the level of Beijing in the last year, so I don't think there is much expectation for me at the Olympics. But, of course, I have my own expectations." (nzherald.co.nz, 27 Jan 2012)

General
CONSIDERATIONS
There is a possibility he will also run the 5000m at the 2012 Olympic Games in addition to his regular distance of 1500m. The idea is that it will allow him to run more freely, and shouldn't affect his training too much. "The 1500m is first at the Games so it [5000m] would just be a secondary event. It would be a backup in case something went wrong, like I got tripped in the semifinal and didn't advance through. The most nerve-wracking time at the Olympics is at the start of the semifinal when you think: 'Wow, this could be it if something goes wrong', so it would take a little bit of that pressure off." (stuff.co.nz, 22 Mar 2012)

COACH
He has been with Ron Warhurst since his University of Michigan days. "He is the best coach in the world for my specific needs. Ron gives me a very long leash, which allows me to be very involved in the daily decision making process with my training. He taught me most of what I know about running, and it is amazing how many times we bring near identical ideas to the table for the next workout. Ron's methods aren't greatly different to that of most coaches in the world, but his personality is his x factor." (runnerstribe.com, 08 Nov 2011)

TRAGEDY
His mother died from cancer when he was four years old. (willisrunning.com, 18 Aug 2010)
