He took up BMX aged four at his local track in New Zealand. (endurance.sport.co.nz, 07 Oct 2011)

Ambitions
"I'm definitely going in to the 2012 Olympics off my best ever year, my best year by far, and the aim is Olympic gold, no question." (stuff.co.nz, 08 Apr 2012)

Most memorable sporting achievement
"Winning my first world cup supercross race in France in 2007." (lifestyle.msn.co.nz, 01 Jul 2010)

Hero
Hamish Carter [New Zealand triathlete] and Sarah Ulmer [New Zealand cyclist]. (lifestyle.msn.co.nz, 01 Jul 2010)

Superstitions / Rituals
"I wouldn't call it a ritual but I'm very fidgety when I'm on the start gate. I'm constantly scratching my face and making sure my gloves feel comfortable." (lifestyle.msn.co.nz, 01 Jul 2010)

General
LIVING IN THE USA
He believes BMX in New Zealand is popular despite the nation's small size. "For a small country it is a big scene. I'd say per capita New Zealand would be near the top in terms of licensed riders. Most of the younger age groups have strong riders who are capable of being in the mix at world champs." However he lives and trains in the US where the BMX scene is much bigger and more professional. "There's no way I could be based in New Zealand, it's impossible. The perk of being based in America is that you're racing every other weekend, you know exactly what condition you're in and what you've got to work on." (stuff.co.nz, 08 Apr 2012; lifestyle.msn.co.nz, 01 Jul 2010)

SHOULDER INJURY
On his plan to stay aggressive when riding, even after his severe 2009 shoulder injury he says, "The attacking approach has been working this year [2012] so I'm going to keep everything exactly the same. Plus I'm now comfortable that the shoulder is really good. In this sport, you have to put up with niggles and groans from your body, but you don't want to be fighting things all the time."
