FROM ENGLAND TO AMERICA
She grew up in England, but moved to Toledo, Ohio, with her family at age 12. She officially became a US citizen in 2003. Although she was born in England, she doesn't consider the London 2012 Olympic Games to be a homecoming. "I'm not going home. My home is America. I live in Florida, this is my home." (ussailing.org, 26 Apr 2012; espn.go.com, 24 May 2012)
SINGLE TO TEAM EVENT AT OLYMPICS
She won Olympic gold in Beijing in 2008 in the laser radial class, a solo event, but she will be racing as part of a team in London. "It's something new, challenging, completely different. It's communication, it's confidence in your team. But like other events, it's demanding. You have to have endurance over six days. You have to be able to take control of your boat. The more tired you are, the more mistakes you're going to make." (cnn.com, 17 Feb 2012)
TEAMWORK
Along with her crew mates Molly Vandemoer and Debbie Capozzi, she has a clearly defined role during a race. "We broke down the roles. We each have a clearly defined role and we stick to it. Debbie does upwind big-picture and downwind tactics, Molly does upwind tactics and downwind she flies the kite, and I do boatspeed and both upwind and downwind tactics. We don't do each other's jobs." (harken.com, 16 May 2012)
