General
FRACTURED FRIENDSHIP
He and Great Britain's Paul Goodison used to be good friends. But the two had a heated exchange at a pub after the Weymouth pre-Olympic regatta in June 2012. Goodison said Slingsby's Australian team-mate Tom Burton had blocked him in the race, costing him a chance to medal. Goodison and Slingsby did not see eye to eye on the issue, and their friendship became more tense in the weeks before the start of the 2012 Olympic Games in London, where both are expected to be medal contenders. (metro.co.uk, 14 Jun 2012)
AMERICA'S CUP
In 2013 he will compete with the Oracle Racing Team as it defends its America's Cup title in San Francisco, California. (olympics.com.au, 01 Mar 2012)
WEIGHT CHANGE
He decided to compete at the 2011 Olympic test event in Weymouth with a slimmer build, testing to see if being lighter would gain him an advantage. He won the event but decided to return to his normal weight as he preferred competing with a stronger build. (olympics.com.au, 01 Mar 2012)
EARLY DAYS
He did not initially like sailing. His sister had to pay him 20 cents per race in his first season just to stay on the boat. However, he dropped tennis for sailing at age 15 after being inspired by watching the Olympic regattas from Sydney Harbour. (bbc.co.uk , 26 Jul 2011)
