Start of sporting career
She took up the sport in 2000, switching from swimming. (pentathlondeutschland.de, 25 Jul 2008)

Reason for taking up this sport
In 2000 she met modern pentathlon coach Kersten Palmer while training at the SSF Bonn club. She was interested in the diversity of the disciplines and liked the friendly atmosphere of the sport. (lena-schoeneborn.com, 08 Aug 2011; UIPM Media Guide 2011)

Training
