Start of sporting career

Reason for taking up this sport
She started competing in all events until her coaches noticed her potential in the throwing disciplines. "I love it when I throw. Besides, hammer throwers are like a family, with rivalry but no aggressiveness." (IAAF, 11 Sep 2006)

LEAVING HOME
She was recruited by the Cerro Pelado Sports School in Camaguey at the age of 11, and in order to attend the school she had to leave home. (IAAF, 11 Sep 2006)
