He is the third generation of his family to win a medal for Italy in fencing at the Olympic Games. His grandfather, Aldo, won a silver medal in the men's sabre at the 1936 Berlin Games. His father, Mario Aldo, was part of the Italian sabre team that won gold at the 1972 Munich Games. He also won silver medals in 1976 and 1980. His uncles Mario Tullio and Tommaso were on the same team as his father in 1976, while a third uncle Carlo won silver in the foil team event in 1976. (sports-reference.com, 25 Aug 2008)

THE FARM
In 2006 he participated in Italian reality TV show 'La Fattoria' [The Farm] in Morocco, in a format similar to 'Big Brother'. He was allowed to train for one hour a day during the show. However, on March 22, 2006 he appeared on television to announce he could no longer participate in the show after suffering an injury during training.
