MASCOT INCIDENTS
After winning the 3000m steeplechase at the 2012 European championships in Helsinki, he approached the championships' mascot 'Appy', which was 14-year-old girl in costume. While still on track and captured by television cameras, he slapped a gift out of her hands and shoved her with both hands. The girl was slightly winded but otherwise unharmed. It was the second incident with a mascot, as two years earlier at the European championships he asked the mascot to kneel in front of him then shoved him to the ground. The organisers of the 2012 event registered a complaint with the IAAF, labelling his behaviour "completely unacceptable". (smh.com.au, 03 Jul 2012)

2011 FIGHT AND SUSPENSION
At a 2011 Diamond League meeting in Monaco he was involved in a physical altercation with compatriot Mehdi Baala following the 1500m event. The pair confronted one another up close over a dispute while still on the track, at which point Baala appears to headbutt him. He responded by throwing several slaps and punches before the pair were separated. Both athletes were suspended by the French Athletics Federation for 10 months [with five months suspended] and three years probation. They were also fined and ordered to do 50 hours of community service. (lefigaro.fr; youtube.com, 23 Jul 2011; leparisien.fr, 05 Aug 2011)
