CHANGING HIS NAME
When chosen in the Kenyan team to run the 2,000M steeplechase at the 2001 World Youth Championships in Debrecen, Hungary, the then 15-year-old Firmin Kipruto needed a passport. But when he was applying for a birth certificate to obtain his first passport, Firmin was mistakenly transcribed into Brimin by a clerk. "I saw what was entered in the computer, so I thought I had to stay with what they wrote," Kipruto said. "They did it by mistake." Ever since his name has been Brimin. (iaaf.org, 21 Sep 2007)
