EGYPT TRAINING SCARE
In 2011 he was training in Egypt when the political protests and uprising broke out. He and his coach were unable to leave the Cairo training centre for several days due to the violence in the streets. After spending two days at the airport, the pair managed to get a flight out of Egypt. He had trained regularly in Egypt since 2007. (insidethegames.com, 02 Feb 2011)

EARLY DAYS
His Qatar-based coach Jama Aden first spotted him in a cross country race in Khartoum, Sudan. He led early on, but finished 25th. "Jama told me to come and train with the national youth team. I just told him 'why me?'. Twenty four athletes beat me." Aden responded by saying that he thought Kaki had the potential to become a special runner. (runningtimes.com, 2009)
