Start of sporting career
He rode a donkey from a young age as it was the only means of transportation. At age 16 he learned how to ride a horse. (yourstables.co.uk, 12 Aug 2010)

Reason for taking up this sport
He was brought up on Sark [an island that lies between Guernsey and Jersey, off the coast of Normandy, France] where the only transport available was horses.
