COMEBACK KID
She left the sport when she was 19 as she had become disillusioned. "Cycling was my life at a very young age. After my World Cup win in Sydney [2002] I started not caring as much. I really didn't like the sport much anymore but felt pressured to stay in it. Finally I had the guts to say 'no more.'" Two years later she was working in a Colorado Springs bagel shop when she was inspired by the cycling at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens on television. In August 2005, she made a comeback to the sport. (sarahhammer.us, 2012)

SECURING THE FUTURE
She is the founder of the American Women's Track Cycling Fund, and the Sarah Hammer Track Development Program, which looks to support the future of American women's track racing by providing equipment, travel grants and seminars to developing female track cyclists. (cycling.teamusa.org, 2011)
