Additional information

Start of sporting career
In 1984 at age 11 his father bought him a pellet gun while on school holidays. (Hubert Ripoll, 2008)

Reason for taking up this sport
After playing with the pellet gun his father bought him on school holidays, he had to write a school report detailing what he did during the holidays. "Afterwards my school teacher, who happened to be a shooter himself, proposed that I come and join his club. I started off as a junior, and within six months won a French championship. It all happened quite by chance." (Hubert Ripoll, 2008)

Ambitions
To win a medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. (charentelibre.fr, 31 Jan 2012)

Most influential person in career
His father Jean-Claude, Mr. Coll the school teacher who first encouraged him to try shooting, elite shooter Franck Menissez who took his shooting "to the next level" and Pierre Philip. (INFO 2000; Hubert Ripoll, 2008)

Superstitions / Rituals
"I have a way of thinking for stability. I hold an image of the Eiffel Tower [the way it stands solid]. I think about it and its stability for my shooting. Also I imagine the back sight on front sight, and if it looks okay, I imagine a red laser on the target that after the shot has broken the laser and the shot are the same. My moving is the same because the laser is moving." (pilkguns.com, 21 Jan 2004)

Sporting philosophy / motto
"Shooting is not just about technique. Technique is nothing without mental strength and concentration. One must concentrate but at the right moment, because competitions last for nearly two hours you must know the right moment to focus your concentration. At this point, shooting becomes more of a philosophy than about technique." (pilkguns.com, 21 Jan 2004)
