"In my pre-rowing days I did a lot of skateboarding, but I was always falling off and injuring myself, so when I started rowing I had to put my skating career on hold. In the summer I also like a bit of surfing and I've found that it's a bit easier to stay injury free when you fall into water rather than concrete." He is also a Rubik's Cube enthusiast.
