Reason for taking up this sport
Her father, a high jumper, used to take her to the athletics stadium. "There is a photo, when I was only three years old and it shows me trying to make a long jump. My father achieved 'only' 2.15m, so I intend to bring his dreams as a jumper into reality, through my own performances." (IAAF, 29 Jan 2003)

BIRTHPLACE
Her documents state that she was born in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, but in fact, she was born in Belaya Kalitva in the Russian region of Rostov. Her mother moved to Yerevan to play basketball and to study, so she registered her newly born daughter there. (prosports.ru, 03 Jun 2010)
