As well as basketball, she also had success in other sports as a youngster in the US. She was an All-State football [soccer] player and earned All-Narrows league honours for four years in a row. She was twice named her league's Offensive Player of the Year and once the Defensive Player of the Year. She also impressed at the shot put and still holds her school's record for the sport at 37-5.
