COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
She became an ambassador for the National Breast Cancer Foundation after winning gold at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. She found out her mother had been diagnosed with breast cancer the same day she found out she had made the Olympic team for Athens. After winning gold she decided to use her profile to raise awareness about breast cancer. "I remember standing on the podium and thinking, 'Whatever I can do with this medal to help people like my mum, I'm going to do it'."
