Accessibility

LOCOG and the ODA are committed to ensuring that London 2012 is everyone's Games, with services and facilities to meet all accessibility requirements.

Accessibility

Our aim has always been to provide a wide range of services and ticket products for disabled people, tailored to the needs of people rather than a ‘one size fits all’ approach. LOCOG and the ODA are committed to ensuring that London 2012 is everyone’s Games, with services and facilities to meet all accessibility requirements.

Applying for tickets

London 2012 has created a ticketing process which is inclusive and accessible. It is important to us that disabled people can purchase tickets easily.

Visit the London 2012 ticketing website

BSL videos will be available to make the process accessible to Deaf people and an easy read document will be available to help simplify the process. If you use technology such as a screen reader, there is no need to make a call to a special phone line. It will simply be about choosing the tickets you want to apply for in order to have a great Games experience.

Ticket types

Standard seat with an additional accessibility requirement

There are important differences between registering an additional accessibility requirement between 11am on 29 November 2011 and 6pm on 6 February 2012, and registering during the application phase.

If you have an additional accessibility requirement which will enhance your enjoyment of the Games you now need to call 0844 847 2012 to request one of the following options while booking all other tickets for your party:

  • Seats close to the action for visually impaired people.
  • Seats with a direct view of a video screen for people who are deaf or have impaired hearing.
  • Seats for people who cannot manage many steps, at the back or the front of a stand.
  • Seats for people who need to be on the end of a row.

We will be able to advise during the call if there are any seats which match your request for the session you want to attend. To ensure that your tickets are together, you will not be able to book tickets online.

Please note, additional accessibility requirement seats are subject to availability and are not guaranteed. The additional accessibility requirement will be applied to the price category that you request - so if you apply for a ticket in price category C, the additional accessibility requirement will be applied to a category C seat inside the venue.

If your application for tickets is successful, we will do all we can to ensure you and your party are allocated seats which suit your needs.

Wheelchair space ticket

When applying for London 2012 Games tickets, you will be able to apply for a wheelchair space online without the need to call a special phone line or answer intrusive questions. If your application is successful, you will be provided with a wheelchair space wide enough to accommodate your wheelchair or mobility scooter, and an adjacent companion seat.

A companion seat is included in the cost of a ticket for a wheelchair space.

Where applicable, the special prices for young people and seniors will be available when applying for a wheelchair space.

You can also purchase tickets for accompanying family or friends, all of whom will be seated next to, or as close as possible to, the wheelchair space and companion seat. If you wish to purchase tickets online you can request a maximum of four ticket types. For example: one full price, one senior, one four-year-old and one seven-year-old. For full price and senior ticket types, you can purchase multiple tickets; however, each different age for a young person is classed as a separate ticket type.

If you want to purchase more than four ticket types, please call 0844 847 2012 to make your booking.

We will try to seat large groups of wheelchair users together but due to venue constraints this may not always be possible.

Ticketcare

There are important differences between registering an additional accessibility requirement between 11am on 29 November 2011 and 6pm on 6 February 2012 and the application phase.

Please note, the Ticketcare scheme is only available to those disabled people who do not need a wheelchair space but cannot come to the Games without a carer or PA. Ticketcare tickets are subject to availability and are not guaranteed.

You may be asked to provide relevant proof before the additional carer or PA ticket is allocated. These tickets are available for every session, at every venue, in every price category, and will be added to your ticketing account at no extra charge, subject to availability.

If you were successful in the ticketing application process but are not allocated a free of charge carer or PA ticket, you will be offered the option of retaining all your allocated tickets or receiving a full refund if requested by 27 January 2012.

If you or any members of your party cannot come to the Games without a carer or Personal Assistant (PA), you now need to call 0844 847 2012 to request a carer or PA ticket while booking all other tickets for your party, subject to availability. We will be able to advise during the call if there are any Ticketcare tickets available for the session you want to attend. To ensure that your tickets are together, you will not be able to book tickets online and then add a Ticketcare ticket to your order by phone.

Tickets will be despatched in summer 2012, which is when you will find out your seat location.

Paralympic Games application phase

If you have been allocated Paralympic Games tickets, and requested an additional carer or PA ticket at no extra charge through the Ticketcare scheme between 18 November 2011 and 9 December 2011, we will have contacted you to advise if you have been allocated a Ticketcare ticket.

Accessible facilities

In addition to the above, there will be commentary and audio description, audio enhancements, facilities for assistance dogs, and numerous accessible toilets including toilet facilities with a hoist.

Accessibility services

To ensure everyone can get to the Games safely and easily, London 2012 will provide a number of additional services for disabled people.

Travel

Travel services will include a limited number of Blue Badge parking spaces, accessible shuttle bus options and accessibility improvements to some public transport services. Find out more about getting to the Games

If you would like to plan an accessible journey on this website, please bear in mind that the accessible option of the spectator journey planner is still evolving. The full functionality, which, among other things, will enable you to plan journeys on London’s buses, will be available later this year.

Parking

If your application for tickets is successful, you can then apply for parking. Parking is limited and disabled spectators who require parking will be asked to demonstrate that they are members of the recognised UK Blue Badge scheme, or an equivalent national scheme.

Book your Blue Badge parking space now

Getting there

A limited number of parking spaces are provided close to venues for disabled spectators who are UK Blue Badge holders or members of an equivalent national or international scheme. Accessible parking is free of charge. Because spaces are limited, we recommend you book as early as possible.

You will be able to book spaces once you have received confirmation of whether you have been allocated tickets. Visit the Blue Badge parking booking website for details of how to do this.

Once inside a venue, disabled spectators and people with limited mobility will be able to use the Games Mobility service for help getting around. This free service will be easy to find on entering a venue and will loan manual wheelchairs, powerchairs and electric scooters. The service also includes guiding visually impaired spectators to their seats. You will be able to loan a vehicle on the day of the event or book in advance.

Games Mobility

Once inside a venue, disabled spectators will be able to make use of Games Mobility for help with getting around. This free service will be easy to find inside the venue and will loan out manual wheelchairs and mobility scooters and guide visually impaired people to their seats.

Games Mobility vehicles are available for pre-booking now until mid-April

Other services and facilities

We are making our venues as accessible as possible to ensure everyone has a great Games experience. Other services and facilities include:

  • Accessible shuttle services from key accessible train and bus stations.
  • Extra accessible toilets for disabled spectators.
  • A Changing Places (adult changing) toilet at all venues including a hoist.
  • Assistance dog spending areas so that disabled spectators can bring their dog into the venue.
  • Spectator information in accessible formats.
  • Audio description and commentary at all venues. We are working with the RNIB to deliver this.
  • Audio augmentation for hearing aid users at all venues.

Accessible accommodation

There are many hotels in London with step-free access and accommodation adapted for people with various accessibility requirements.

The inclusive London website provides information about the accessibility features of hundreds of hotels, restaurants, pubs, shops, and tourist attractions across the capital. It also states whether hearing loops available, if there are baby changing facilities, whether assistance dogs are welcome and offers details of parking and toilet facilities. Users can post reviews and feedback on the facilities they have used.
