Who’s who?

Chairman of the BOA, Lord Colin Moynihan, sits on the Olympic Board that oversees the Games project.

He also represents the BOA and BPA (British Paralympic Association) on the London 2012 Organising Committee Board.

The British Olympic Association (BOA)

For top athletes from any sport to win medals at the Games they need support.

As the National Olympic Committee, the BOA selects, leads and prepares Team GB at every Summer, Winter and Youth Olympic Games.

There could be over 700 Team GB competitors competing at London 2012, and the BOA has set an aspirational target of coming 4th in the medal table.

In the lead-up to 2012, the BOA will give Britain’s finest athletes the practical help they need to reach their full potential at the Olympic Games. That includes medical assistance, training advice and preparation in special camps before the Games begin.

The BOA is not funded or controlled by government and is completely dependent upon commercial sponsorship and fundraising income to provide the support for Team GB.

As the independent voice of the Olympic Movement in the UK, the BOA has another role – promoting the Olympic spirit and ideals. It works through its charitable arm, the British Olympic Foundation, to do this.

Colin Moynihan, Chairman, BOA

'Hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012 presents an unique opportunity for sport in the UK. In front of a home crowd, we will want to see more Team GB athletes on the medal rostrum than ever before. The Games will inspire generations of children to take up sport and that surely is the most important legacy of London 2012.'
