Copper Box hosts first Cabinet meeting of 2012
To mark 200 days-to-go, the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) today hosted the first Cabinet meeting of 2012 on the Olympic Park and outlined the scale of hosting the two biggest sporting events on the planet this summer.

London 2012 enjoys strong support from Government and across all major political parties.

The Department for Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) leads for Government on the delivery of the Games.

It is responsible for the London Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Act 2006, the overall finances of the Games, and sponsorship of the Olympic Delivery Authority.

The DCMS works closely with other key stakeholders – the London 2012 Organising Committee, Mayor of London, the Olympic Park Legacy Company, the British Olympic Association, the British Paralympic Association  and other Government departments and relevant bodies – on preparations for the Games.

The DCMS is also responsible for bringing together the legacy benefits brought by all the wider sporting, cultural, environmental, educational and business enterprise initiatives that will take place all over the country as a result of the Games before, during and after London 2012. The DCMS leads on this work in coordination with other Government departments.

From 14 May 2012 until the end of the Paralympic Games, Government Olympic Communication will provide a central media service on behalf of the UK Government to help journalists with all enquiries about the Government’s role in delivering the Games, as well as wider questions about life in the UK.
