In June this year, Scope will be launching Time to Get Active, an Inspire project, which will encourage different people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to get involved in a physical and fun challenge while raising the profile of Scope. And it will also highlight the importance of inclusion and accessibility.
I'm going to be taking part in an event in Southwark Park which will give everyone, regardless of their differing abilities, the chance to enjoy a physical challenge using whatever kind of wheels they want.
After a long, hard think about how I could take part, I decided to use the trolley I have at home to help me walk around my flat. It will be a great challenge for me if I was to use it to walk the 2.5km route and an even bigger achievement to reach the finish line. I know I'll have to put a lot of training in – as I've never walked that far before – but if the Paralympians can do it, why can't I? It will also show me that I can do whatever I put my mind to.
And it will show other people, who may not know any disabled people or who don't have any experience of disability, what disabled people can achieve and that they aren't any different than their non-disabled peers.
