Today marked a milestone in the burying of powerlines beneath the Olympic Park.

A Tunnel Boring Machine (named Fionnuala) broke through into a deep shaft, marking the halfway point in the first of two tunnels.

The statistics are amazing. Two tunnels lined with 11,000 concrete rings will eventually stretch a total distance of 13km. Work is taking place 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Watch our film of the Tunnel Boring Machine breaking through into the first shaft here and read more about the tunnelling.
