The course was challengingly hilly, and the stormy weather was certainly no help as we headed out East and ran round the Queen's House and Royal Artillery Barracks (site of the Shooting venue) before heading back to Blackheath and Greenwich Park (site of the Equestrian events) and then back to the North Greenwich Arena.
Unlike 2012, there were no world-record attempts by the world's best athletes at any of these venues, just thousands of damp runners splashing through puddles and trying to get sight of the finish-line. Striding downhill through Greenwich Park, many of us sped up anyway to get a good time at the end.
This coming weekend sees London getting its second half-marathon, around the Royal Parks (some great Games venues there too). Hopefully the weather for those runners will be more like they had in Gateshead…
