Off to our internal Education team I went, and how timely was the schools Health Week as London 2012 had just launched the Paralympic Handover participation scheme with all of the UK schools. Here gave me the opportunity to initiate the thoughts of the children in how they can participate.
The school split the classes into three groups according to their year and so I presented to about 40 children at a time.
What an experience I had with such a captive, inquisitive and excited audience. Their jaws dropped at the scale of the event and excitement at the opportuinities to participate. A 10 year old boy asked me "I love Triathalons and if I keep training can I go to the London Olympics?" A 6 year old girl said "I am great at dancing, how can I be part of the Olympics?"
I was amazed at how much how these kids already knew but more importantly, how enthusiastic they were about being hosting the biggest event in the world in their home city.
I hope they felt inspired by what I shared with them and I certainly left thinking teaching probably wasn't as bad as I thought, especially when you see 40 children's faces totally enthralled by what you are saying.
