Teaching children site health and safety
Jennifer, ODA Community Relations team
Last week children from the Waterden Crescent Travellers’ community were the first to attend the Olympic Delivery Authority’s new health and safety initiative - ‘Don’t Go There!’ - a play and workshop about staying safe near construction sites.

After watching a dramatic performance about two friends who trespass on a construction site, the children talked in small groups about health and safety. Using costumes, props, sound effects and songs, they were then invited to create and perform their own play. The imaginative and entertaining results suggest there were quite a few budding playwrights, actors, actresses and singers present!
Judging from the enthusiastic response, everyone had a great time while learning about the importance of health and safety around construction sites.
Health and safety sessions will be offered to schools in the five Host Boroughs (Hackney, Greenwich, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Walthamstow) in the New Year. For more information call the construction hotline on 08000 722 110.
