Ben, Department for Transport (DfT)14 October 2008
On 7 October I was lucky enough to join other members of the Olympic Delivery Authority’s (ODA’s) Borough Transport Forum on a visit round the Olympic Park. I last visited the Park in August 2007 when the site had been secured but most of it still had to
As we drove around the Park we could see it is clearly marked out and signposted to where the different venues are going to be. So after all the long planning and preparation, it is now really possible to see how the site is turning from a relatively unknown corner of east London into the centre of the world’s largest sporting event.
In particular the Olympic Stadium is shooting up. The site is outlined by half a dozen giant tower cranes, but it is also taking shape at ground level, with tall columns being constructed and concrete supports being put into place. The exciting thing is that it is now really starting to look like a stadium.
Later, back at the ODA’s offices, there was the regular Borough Transport Forum meeting. This is a get together of representatives of the London boroughs, the ODA, Transport for London and the Department for Transport. It provides a chance to share information as well as get an update on how transport plans are developing.
The thing that always strikes me about these meetings is how positive everyone is and how all of the organisations represented are united in working together to deliver a fantastic Games in 2012.
