My role at London 2012 is to project manage this launch weekend, to coordinate and record all of the events that will be taking place, and following the recent meeting with the regional Creative Programmers I am pleased to say that we have events taking place all over the UK and the list is shaping up nicely. But, we are still looking for more and we are especially keen to attract more small scale projects. The involvement of a small community arts centre or a local dance troops are just as important to us as some of the more established and larger institutions. I want to make the great discovery - what a coup that would be! No matter how large or small the event is we want it to be part of the launch weekend.
Having been in the events industry for 10 years I have had more than my share of testing moments – from a 3 hour power failure in ExCeL to deep sea fishing in Dubai! All have been memorable but none will match the next 5 months.
Am I setting my hopes too high? I don't think so. The launch of the Cultural Olympiad will be a great opportunity for everyone across the UK to get involved in the passion and excitement of being the host nation for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
