Students make their mark on venue seating
Emily, Trainee Assistant Design Advisor
Recently the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) ran a fantastic creative challenge with architecture students from the University of the Arts. The aim of the day was to look at potential ideas for seat colour patterns for the Handball, Basketball and Water

The challenge finished, after much manic model making, with each group presenting their designs to a top panel of judges. This scary panel included Ken Shuttleworth (Handball Architect), Sam Wright (Basketball Architect), Sarah Weir (ODA Head of Arts and Culture) and Simon Wright (Director of Infrastructure and Utilities). The five teams each had 10 minutes to present ideas for all three venues.

The judges discussed the ideas privately before making the tough announcement of the overall winner. The panel chose one group to take their ideas to the next stage for a family of designs to cover all three venues.

The winning concept was a bold resonating heartbeat linking the three venues across the Park. The panel stated this was a great, modern design that would translate onto the mammoth scale of the London 2012 venues.
