They've got the same need for the strength, the short burst of energy at the start.

Like on the track, you race against your opponents rather than the clock.

You need speed, a taste for a bit of danger, and serious amounts of strategy.

And you need to push yourself beyond your limits.

I loved the excitement of it all yesterday, watching the skaters furiously try and overtake each other, especially on such a small rink.

Team GB's Christie Elise and Sarah Lindsay gave it their all, as we would expect. Of course, it was disappointing to see Sarah disqualified – she seemed gutted. This can be one of the most difficult times to deal with in an athlete's career. However, I'm sure she’ll show the determination I know she has, pick herself up and come back in four years time with a vengeance!
