Seeing our design on Olympic Park hoardings
Shadiqul, school pupil
Last week me and my classmates came and saw the design work we did for the big boards around the Olympic Park site - the hoardings. We arrived at Stratford and a bus took us to Hackney Wick Community Centre where we met other schools who had also won the

I was really interested that Jonathan Edwards did a speech because he used to do sport. He said he had to jump 18 metres when he was in the Olympics – he told us that was the same as jumping from one of the walls to another and longer! We do long jump at school and I really enjoy it.

After the speeches we went down by the river and stopped by the bridge and saw our pictures on the big boards around the edge of the Olympic Park – we were surprised how big they were.

We liked doing our design because everyone worked together and because of all the different materials we got to use. We made the Olympic Park as a model – there were three people in our group.
I’m really excited about the Olympics coming to London because I’ve never been able to travel to an Olympics before and now it’s coming to us. I’m looking forward to watching the Hammer Throw, Triple jump, Long Jump and Swimming.

450 students from 17 schools across the five Host Boroughs of Greenwich, Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest took part in a programme of design workshops inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Their designs are now on display on hoardings along the Hackney Wick towpath. On Tuesday 10 June, the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) held a celebration event for all the children involved in the project.
