Schools and colleges: celebrate Paralympic Handover with us!
Kathryn, LOCOG Education team
Yesterday, we launched a new education resource designed to encourage schools and colleges across the UK to celebrate Paralympic Handover on Wednesday 17 September. Launching the new resources - Front: Young Ambassadors James and Jasmine; Back L-R: Brenda

This resource provides lots of different tools including: activity ideas; assembly materials; factsheets about British Paralympians; a screensaver and certificates to download; a bank of images that can be used in assemblies or presentations; and lots of information about the Paralympic Games and the Paralympic Handover.

By today, every single school and college in the UK (over 31,000) will have received a letter from Seb Coe encouraging them to take part, a DVD introducing Handover for use in lessons and assemblies and a timeline on 'The History of the Paralympic Games' for use in classrooms.

If you're a teacher or a young person, why not visit the site and register to be part of the programme? Every school or college that registers can order a special set of Paralympic posters and stickers (stickers for primary schools only) and more information on exciting opportunities to get involved this summer. Schools or colleges that register by Wednesday 25 June will also be in with a chance of winning an incredible Visa Trip package to the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games for one of their pupils!

We're already hearing lots of different ways in which schools and colleges are planning to mark the day. These include: inclusive sports festivals; parents' open days; singing competitions; community 'Clean up' projects; sports and language events; and, international days. Make sure you log onto to the website or contact us at education@london2012.com to tell us what you're doing!
