He passed away just hours after the Olympic Flame for the 2010 Games was lit in Olympia Greece. John Furlong, the Chief Executive of Vancouver 2010, had called him immediately after the ceremony to recount what had gone on. It no doubt gave Jack immense pride to know the years of effort were finally coming to fruition.
I wish his colleagues and family sincere condolences at this devastating time. Jack will be sorely missed and fondly remembered. His spirit will live on - not least, of course, during the Vancouver Games themselves.
