As a keen sailor, a trip down to a sunny Weymouth and Portland on a day when the rest of the country was covered in snow to unveil our plans for the Olympic and Paralympic Sailing facilities was one of those rare occasions where business met pleasure.
The Sailing events during the Games will be hosted at Osprey Quay and the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA).
During the three-day ‘Osprey Quay – What’s next?’ exhibition last week we were able to unveil our plans to regenerate the area and to highlight how we are going for gold to ensure Weymouth and Portland are one of the first venues ready for the 2012 Games.
The exhibition was a great success with well over 300 attendees and gave us chance to hear at first hand some of the enthusiasm and expectation of the Games coming to the area in 2012.
We were also visited by students from four local secondary schools and it was great to see some of the young faces that will benefit most from the improved facilities and lasting legacy we are planning.
